Prior to joining MacKay LLP over three years ago, Tom spent five years working with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) primarily as a senior technical advisor to the business audit division, 12 years as a successful business owner, and 12 years as a partner in a national Chartered Accountant (CA) firm.
Tom works in all areas of taxation and has strong knowledge in the area of commodity taxation (GST/HST). He has a particular interest and involvement in the income and commodity tax aspects of real property transactions and property development.
Professional Memberships and Education
Tom is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia (ICABC). He has also completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) In-depth Tax Course and In-depth Goods and Services Tax Course.
Extra-curricular Activities
When he is not working, Tom likes to spend time with his four children and two grandchildren. He is also an avid reader, walker, and runner. Tom and his wife have also puppy-raised and trained four dogs for the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS), a non-profit organization that trains service dogs to help people with physical disabilities and agility issues, hearing dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and facility or therapy dogs for placement in long-term care or group homes, hospitals, schools, or in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) settings.
